Soil Conservation

Sector Scenario in Assam Economy :

Soil Conservation department basically takes up Soil erosion control measures in erodable cultivable land and this prevents top fertile layer of soil from depletion by erosion and as such an important aspect related to agricultural production. Further various soil conservation measures, water harvesting and water distribution techniques conserves soil moisture which increases crop production. Most of the soil conservation projects implemented are labour intensive and as such contribute to rural employment. There is also scope for developing small scale industries on Plantation Crops like Rubber and Coffee for which Soil Conservation department  has created Assam Plantation Crops Development Corporation (A.P.C.D.C )  with  head quarter at   Guwahati .

As such soil conservation department can play a major role in boosting rural economy. However due to inadequate fund allocation, implementation of projects/schemes have been on a very limited scale during last several years.
