Breeds of Broiler
Broilers are birds resulting from crossing various breeds for increased body weight, growth rate and improved feed conversion efficiency and must be maintained at a reasonable level of egg production. A good table (meat type) strain is mated to a female from a good laying strain and the resulting pullets are mated to a male from a good quality table strain to produce the broiler bird. Names of some commercial broilers are: 1. B-77: Developed from Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar.2. Caribrogolden 91: Developed from Central Avian Research Institute, Izatnagar. 3. IBV-80: Developed at Bangalore. 4. IVL: Developed at Ludhiana. 5. Bebcock: Developed at Venketeshwar hatcheries, Pune. 6. Kegbro: Developed at New Delhi. 7. Hypaco: Developed at Hyderabad. 8. Avian 34: Developed at Indian Poultry Farm, Bangalore.
